To answer the question ... "How much is a portrait session" is a bit like trying to describe “how long is a piece of string?”

There is a nominal session fee, which covers a planning meeting and the shoot itself. From there it’s up to you as to how little or how much you would like to budget towards your portrait order. As a rule of thumb, it can be anywhere from just a few hundred dollars to several thousand.
